Days between dates calculator

Count the days between two dates, or until an event, and break them down into weeks, months and weekdays.

Days between dates: what it is and how it works

Knowing how many days there are between two dates is useful for all sorts of things: counting down to a holiday, wedding or exam, working out the length of a contract or trip, or checking a deadline. Doing it by hand is error-prone, because months have 28, 29, 30 or 31 days and every four years there is a leap year.

This calculator takes all that into account. By default it counts the days elapsed between the two dates; tick the box to include the last day as well, as you would when counting the days of a full stay. As well as the total, it shows the result in weeks and in years, months and days, and separates weekdays from weekend days.

How to use it

  1. Choose the start and end dates.
  2. Tick the box if you also want to count the last day.
  3. See the total days, weeks and weekdays.
FormulaDays = end date − start date (+ 1 if the end date is included)

Worked example

From 1 January to 31 December 2026 there are 364 days, or 365 if you also count 31 December. Of those, 261 fall from Monday to Friday.

Frequently asked questions

Is the first day counted?

By default elapsed days are counted: from Monday to Tuesday is 1 day. If you tick the option, the end date is included and the result increases by one.

Are leap years taken into account?

Yes. The calculation uses the real calendar, with 28- or 29-day Februaries.

Are public holidays excluded from weekdays?

No: only Saturdays and Sundays are excluded here. To exclude Spanish national holidays, use the working days calculator.

Can I count the days until a date?

Yes. Set today as the start date and the event date as the end date.
