Working days calculator: what it is and how it works

Many deadlines are counted in working days rather than calendar days: administrative deadlines, supplier lead times or the time limit to challenge a dismissal, for example. Working days are generally Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays.

This calculator has two modes. The first adds or subtracts a number of working days from a date and tells you when the deadline ends. The second counts how many working days there are between two dates. You can exclude Spanish national public holidays, including Good Friday, which is calculated for each year. Regional and local holidays vary by place and are not included; outside Spain, leave the option unticked to count weekdays only.

How to use it

  1. Choose whether to add or subtract working days, or count those between two dates.
  2. Enter the start date and the number of days or the end date.
  3. Tick the box to exclude national holidays and read the result.
FormulaWorking day = Monday to Friday that is not a public holiday

Worked example

If on 2 November 2026 you are given 10 working days, excluding Spanish national holidays the deadline is Monday 16 November. December 2026 has 21 working days in Spain.

Frequently asked questions

Is Saturday a working day?

Not for most official deadlines in Spain. In other contexts it depends on the applicable rules.

When does a deadline start?

Usually the day after notification or publication. That is why the calculator does not count the start date when adding.

Which Spanish holidays are excluded?

New Year, Epiphany, Good Friday, Labour Day, Assumption, National Day, All Saints, Constitution Day, Immaculate Conception and Christmas.

Can I use it outside Spain?

Yes. Leave the holiday option unticked to count Monday to Friday only, then adjust for your local holidays.
