Spain payslip calculator: what it is and how it works

The nómina is the payslip your employer in Spain gives you every month. The earnings section shows what you earn (base salary, supplements and, where applicable, the share of extra payments) and the deductions section shows what is taken off: your Social Security contributions and IRPF withholding. The difference is your take-home pay.

Contributions are calculated on the contribution base, which includes the pro-rata share of extra payments even if they are paid in June and December. That is why in a month with an extra payment only IRPF is withheld from it. This calculator reproduces a standard 2026 payslip: common contingencies (4.70 %), intergenerational equity mechanism (0.15 %), vocational training (0.10 %) and unemployment (1.55 % or 1.60 %).

How to use it

  1. Enter your gross annual salary and whether you are paid in 12 or 14 payments.
  2. Complete your contract and family situation to calculate withholding.
  3. Review the payslip breakdown and the take-home pay for an ordinary and an extra payment.
FormulaTake-home = Gross pay − contributions (6.50 % or 6.55 % of base) − IRPF on the payment

Worked example

With €30,000 gross in 14 payments, each ordinary payment is €2,142.86. €162.50 of Social Security and €351.86 of IRPF (16.42 %) are deducted, leaving €1,628.50. Extra payments come to €1,791, because only IRPF is withheld.

Frequently asked questions

What is the contribution base?

The amount on which contributions are calculated: your monthly salary plus the pro-rata share of extra payments, with a minimum and a maximum (€5,101.20 a month in 2026).

Why is there no Social Security on extra payments?

Because extra payments already contribute every month through the pro-rata share in the base. Only IRPF is withheld from the extra payment itself.

What is the MEI?

The intergenerational equity mechanism, a contribution that funds the pension reserve. In 2026 employees pay 0.15 %.

What does the employer pay?

Employers contribute roughly 31–32 % on top of your base (common contingencies, unemployment, wage guarantee fund, training, MEI and workplace accidents). It does not appear as a deduction on your payslip.
